Switched Back
Posted 23 February, 2009I’ve switched back to Firefox. Chrome and Windows 7 do not play nice enough, the lack of bookmark syncing really bugs me, and the feature set on Chrome isn’t good enough to have me stick with it. I would love to see Chrome take off, but it’s back to Firefox for me.
It’s Over 9000! (volts)
Posted 18 February, 2009
Today was another field-trip day in ECE. We didn’t go too far – we walked a few feet to the rear of the building to the high-voltage research laboratory. You know, the biggest non-industrial university high-voltage lab in the country.
We walk into a large room filled with equipment that Nikolai Tesla would have recognized. The feeling in the room is similar to walking into Dr. Kleiner’s lab in Half-Life 2 (yes, video game reference). We were greeted by Dr. Grzybowski, a short, portly man. He has a Polish accent and talks very slowly.
Soldering
Posted 17 February, 2009
Spending a few hours last night, I finished the Elenco Electronics, Inc. Solder Practice Kit Model SP-3B – a PCB with stuff on it so I can practice soldering. It does do something, though – put the correct chip in and power it up and you’ll get blinking lights. How exciting, eh?
It was a very good practice in soldering, though. It was really fun to do. It also made me realize that I need something to hold onto my work while I’m soldering it. Eventually I’ll buy something.
Here begins my career in Electrical Engineering. Woo!
Yay Tools
Posted 11 February, 2009Yay tools. Here begins my tool-purchasing. ECE requires me to buy tools that I’ll be using for the rest of my long happy life. I still need a good bit, but for now, I have a pretty happy toolbox (and I actually have a box now). Yay electrical stuff.

I love it when Mississippi is in the news like this. It's more positive than, say, news saying that we're fat or racist. Or ignorant. - 4 days ago
