Christmas Day
Posted 25 December, 2008Merry Christmas.
So, my morning started with a zillion texts to my phone that stated “Merry Christmas.” Between 12am and 12pm, I got about 27 or so texts. Thanks guys. I think I figured out that it was Christmas.
So, it didn’t feel like Christmas this year. Well, all except for the few hours I was out of the house. Everybody really isn’t decorating (except for the “Griswolds” *tehe*) this year. Hell, we didn’t put up a tree and Grandma had one half my height.
So, the part most of my family that reads my blog is waiting for – critiquing of the gifts. I really can’t say I was disappointed. Everything I had I will use and/or consume, which is what I have been wanting lately.
Got a Kodak mini-camcorder/camera. Very useful. I will definitely use it a lot.
Got two sweaters. As winter comes, I’ll wear them.
Got a set of towels. Perfectly matching – great for the dorm.
Got about $100 in cash/gift cards. Awesome.
Got a shaving kit. Not just another shave.
Best thing the family got – a Roomba. I want to see how the dog reacts to it. :D
Night Before Christmas: Redux
Posted 24 December, 2008‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
For I had set the traps, no mouse will get by;
“When they go for the bait,” I said, “the traps will fly!”
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
Putting them up was a big family affair;
The children were (finally) nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of iPods danced in their heads;
And mamma in her gown, and I in my robe,
The lights were set low in a romantic mode,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
And mother right behind me too dashed.
The moon glistening on the ice-covered branches,
The view out among all the mini-ranches,
Was suddenly obstructed by a large mass,
Oh, what an opportunity to not pass!
A little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
Pulling up in his holiday colored Porsche,
His voice sounded a bit hoarse;
“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
Now, Comet! Now Cupid! Now, Donder and Blitzen!
To the front of the house! Through the front door!
We must cover every room, go on every floor!”
So up to the front door the ladies they went,
With the car full of toys, I knew what he meant.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in velvet, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all clean, no ashes and soot;
And a full sack he had flung on his back,
We shared a glance as he was opening his pack.
His eyes — how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as clean as the snow;
The stump of a cigar he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a small face and a little round waist,
He had little time to waste.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He ran to his car, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the Concorde.
But I heard him exclaim, loud enough to wake the horde,
“One more down, a million more tonight.”
Politics
Posted 19 December, 2008I don’t like talking politics, and I normally don’t. And really, when I talk politics, it’s not really politics. It’s really social issues.
I think I might just start writing my thoughts on things (when I find the time…) that kinda concern me and my peers. I have so many ideas and opinions that I want to share, but nobody asks for them.
If you haven’t heard about it yet, the Bush admin’s medical refusal rule that was recent enacted really peeves me. Abortion, contraceptives, artificial insemination, or anything else are things that everybody has the right to. Under this new rule, rape victims can be denied contraceptives or an abortion if the medical facility, doctor, or nurse are morally opposed. Lesbian couples can’t get artificially inseminated. Hell, a gay man could be denied cold medicine if the doctor was morally opposed. I fear that this new rule could easily infringe heavily upon the rights of many people.
I could go on and on and on about topics like this. I really do need to just write one of these days.
Life
Posted 16 December, 2008I need to really keep up with this. I have a bad habit of not keeping up with any journal, blog, vlog, thing for more than a month or so. I get too busy and just forget about it all.
Everything needs to work like Facebook. That’s the only thing I am able to keep up to date as much as anything else. Twitter and then this come second and third. I need to integrate twitter into this website. That would make it more relevant.
I think what I update most takes the least amount of effort. Facebook and Twitter are always at my fingertips through my mobile. This blog isn’t quite as accessible from anywhere. Vlogs require time and effort to produce. It takes more time to share my life through that medium than to actually live life. :P
I’m excited to be home for the break. I needed it. I started to become irritable and very touchy near the end of the semester. Stress does some crazy things to people.
I finished the semester with a 3.61 GPA. Apparently MSU does weight classes, because all I had a 2 B’s and 5 A’s… which, unweighted, should have been 3.72. Oh well. I did well overall, however. I was worried about a 3.5 or lower GPA… didn’t quite happen that way, which is good. Next semester should be better – topics I actually am passionate about. That and getting used to the whole college schedule thing.

I love it when Mississippi is in the news like this. It's more positive than, say, news saying that we're fat or racist. Or ignorant. - 3 days ago
